It’s cool to be a nerd these days. We’re long past the days of wedgies and whatnot. And let’s not forget that EVERYONE seems to love things nerds have enjoyed for decades thanks to the Hollywood explosions of superhero movies. What a time to be alive!

In a city that enjoys cocktails, music and general nightlife, finding a joint to kick back and sling a 20-sided die can be a challenge. But here are some places you can get your nerd on in the Crescent City.
Sea Cave Arcade – Bywater
This place gives the Bywater an extra life with a nostalgic arcade that has everything except the actual quarter-eating coin-op frustrations. With arcade cabinets featuring dozens of arcade and console classics, this is a MUST for gamers. Five dollars gets you a day pass and you can FINALLY beat “The Simpsons” or “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” without the need to raid your parents’ quarter jar like you did in the ’90s. While they don’t serve alcohol, the bar, Bud Rips, across the street has you covered.

Rook Cafe – Uptown
Do you “settle”? Have trouble finding a group to hit Catan for hours? This place serves up coffee and a good nerd time with tabletop games a plenty. The walls are adorned with art next to Captain America’s vibranium shield. Grab a table and pick your poison of Risk, Catan or Civilization. Coffee and tea drinks have adorable nerdy themed names from “Doctor Who,” “Star Wars” and “Star Trek.”
We like the Tea. Earl Grey. Hot. Make it so.

d4 Tabletop Gaming Café – Carrollton
Oak Street makes for a wonderful stroll for a few nerdy things. This place is one to roll the dice on and make an appearance in. They have snacks and beverages and a food menu to keep you fueled as you take on a quest. Here, you can buy, rent and play a wide variety of role-playing and trading card games and shop for accessories. Grab your squad and dice and take your fellowship on down to Oak Street.

Crescent City Comics – Uptown
When you walk into this Fortress of Nerditude, you’ll be floored at the service and the HUGE selection of graphic novels, comic books and pop culture merch. Whether you’re looking for the latest issue, back issue or need to buy some trade paperbacks to get caught up and understand what the hell happened at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” (WHY DO YOU LEAVE US IN LIMBO, MARVEL?!) you’ll find it. Take a moment to look over the local selection and support your fellow nerds making a name for themselves.

More Fun Comics – Carrollton
This place is massive like the Batcave, featuring relics and new finds. The organization of More Fun Comics is astonishing and you might find that hours have slipped by as you browse their enormous field of back issues. They take subscriptions if you can’t miss an issue of your favorite comic and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and ready to talk about your shared passion. Comics, movies and memorabilia are on tap here along with oddities in between.
