The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission is leading virtual exercise classes every day of the week (often, both, in the evening and during the day). This Friday at noon, the class is focused on yoga, but classes throughout the week are all different. Check out a list of the full offerings here and here to find out when they’ll be leading classes in pilates, yoga, fitness, line dancing, swing, hip hop and much more! Join Live Oak Cafe for some Friday evening music and a healthy dose of empowerment. Joy Clark will be performing an hour-long set, and that will be followed by a voter education session from 7 until 7:30 p.m. The cafe is donating 50% of tips to the Power Coalition, which is dedicated to equipping Louisianians with the knowledge and information they need to find their voice and learn when and where to use it.. You can get 20% off a meal at Live Oak when you donate.

Local superstar Anders Osborne is performing a 90-minute set that will weave a “mystical southern tapestry” of south Louisiana songs and original music. Anders is also featuring his first special guest, percussionist Mike Dillon. Dim the lights, light some candles and listen for the ancient drums, guitars and chants of south Louisiana.
SATURDAY, JULY 11

This year’s Running of the Bulls will be quite different. Join organizers for some great online fun! They’ll bring you a bit of the normal in a different format. The Reverend Psych Ward will bless the fiesta just before 10 a.m. The featured music performance will be The Crystal Method, who’s putting together a mini set just for us! The fest will also feature San Fermin favorites Vivaz!, Ven Pa’Ca, Roxie Le Rouge, Disco Amigos, Lucha Krewe and lots more. So, start working on that Sangria (they’re working on a “How To” video that they’ll post soon), make your plans and get yourself registered for the ZOOM fiesta. Find more information here.

Bulbancha is Still a Place | 10:45 a.m. | Zoom | Free
New Orleans was already a place long before the French arrived. Jeffrey Dahrensbourg, author of the book about the city before its discovery by Europeans, “Bulbancha is Still a Place”, will be the speaker. Darensbourg is a tribal councilperson of the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Indians and a freelance writer, speaker, and editor. He is Editor-Who’s-Not-A-Chief of the zine “Bulbancha Is Still a Place: Indigenous Culture from New Orleans”.

The Real Life People United Against Racism group is open to all people who have a desire to learn about biases and prejudices. The purpose of this group is to increase awareness of the biases we hold toward people of different cultures and ethnicities. Through interaction with other members of the group in an open and organized format, the hope is we’ll better recognize these biases and prejudices when it comes to the way we perceive & treat people of other cultures. This is a 90-minute session and social workers who participate can earn CEUs.

Uptown favorite, The Neutral Ground, is hosting their first live stream event. If you want to sign up for a performance slot at the open mic, send them a note on Facebook Messenger any time on Saturday.
