Urban Hike is another one of the best-kept secrets in Pittsburgh. For over a decade a group of faithful volunteers have been mapping and researching routes around different Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
The guided hike is led by a group of volunteers who carefully research each route and invite experts from the neighborhood to come to speak to the group on local history and neighborhood development. The Urban Hike team kicks off their first 2019 hike on the South Side. The route is about 5 miles and includes stops along the way.
Spring is here and the warmer weather is taking us to the South Side for the first Urban Hike of 2019. The route will lead us through the two major parks on the South Side and take us to some hidden gems along the way.
Meet outside Big Dog Coffee at 10 am. Come early if you want to take advantage of Big Dog’s coffee and other refreshments.
The route is a little less than 5 miles and of course, steps will be included. Because of that, the hike could be labeled as intermediate, with some muddy areas possible. This will be held rain or shine, so please come prepared.

Know before you go: Urban Hike
- Rain or shine: The Urban Hike team is not afraid of the weather and they rarely cancel a hike. Keep an eye on the Facebook event page for updates.
- Should I bring my dog? It’s probably best to leave the pooch at home. While the hikes are outdoors, there are often indoor stops and with so many people, dogs can be a bit tricky to manage.
- While the hike is free, sometimes the group will gather for lunch after. Bring some money if you want to join them.
