Tropical storm Idalia strengthened into a hurricane early Tuesday morning and is expected to approach Florida’s Gulf Coast as a major hurricane on Wednesday. As of Tuesday, August 29th at 2 p.m. Idalia was 130 miles west-northwest of the Dry Tortugas and 240 miles south-southwest of Tampa. Idalia had winds of 90 mph and was moving north at 15 mph. According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a possibility of life-threatening storm surges along certain areas of the Gulf Coast. The water may rise 8 to 12 feet above ground level in some areas.
