Something about the warmer weather in New Orleans makes me want tacos. I don’t know if it’s the warmer, but still comfortable weather or the fact that tacos make for the perfect picnic food. Either way, I wanted to highlight a few of the many awesome places to get tacos in New Orleans. Here are a few of my favorite taco spots in Nola.
Barracuda
3984 Tchoupitoulas St.
446 Pelican St.
Website: www.eatbarracuda.com
Barracuda owner Brett Jones wanted to create the ultimate neighborhood taco spot in New Orleans. In 2019, Jones made his dream a reality when he opened the first Barracuda location on Tchoupitoulas, serving up tasty tacos and margaritas. Jones opened a second location in 2021 in Algiers at a converted gas station. Taco selections include chicken, pork, beef, mushroom, crispy fish, and “farmer”- a veggie taco. The stand also offers quesadillas and chips with a selection of dips.
Price points:
Tacos: $3.60- $4.25
Sides: $1- $3.75
Chips and dips: $4- $16
La Patrona
575 S. Carrollton Ave.
Website: www.lapatronanola.com
Owner Edwin Alonzo has created a small restaurant with a sizeable menu in the Riverbend. La Patrona serves authentic Mexican food in New Orleans such as fajitas, quesadillas and, of course, tacos. The taco filling choices such as chicken, asada, cochinita pibil, al pastor, shrimp, carnitas, lengua or asado de puerco are served with cilantro and onions. This spot has tasty 5 for $10 taco specials in New Orleans that shouldn’t be missed! I took advantage of this deal on my visit and, they were so packed with goodness, that I couldn’t finish them all. This restaurant gets bonus points for their tasty Mexican breakfast options.
Price points:
Tacos: $2.50/each or 5 for $10
Appetizers: $6.75- $12
Entrees: $11- $18.50
Los Jefes Grill
3224 Edenborn Ave.
Website: www.losjefesgrill.com
At Los Jefes, owner Oscar Chimal has created a restaurant that not only serves delicious Mexican food and refreshing drinks, but is always throwing a party with live bands. Located in Fat City, Los Jefes wants to bring the fun back to an area that used to be known for a good time. Here you can get your fix with fajitas and burritos, but the star of the menu is the tacos in New Orleans. Selections include beer-battered tacos, crawfish tacos, voodoo tacos and more.
Price points:
Appetizers: $8- $11.95
Tacos: $7.95- $9.95 (per 2 tacos)
