Since he released his album, “Gumbo,” in April 2017, PJ Morton has hardly stood still.
Let’s quickly review, shall we? He held his album release party at Tipitina’s, and then just days later performed with Maroon 5 at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. (Morton is the band’s keyboardist.)
The very next weekend, he performed again at Jazz Fest, but this time as a solo act belting out his own songs from “Gumbo” and older favorites like “New Orleans Girl.” THEN, he played Essence Festival before embarking on a world tour from July through September. (All this and he has his own record label? And he’s a husband and father? Whew!)
His album was then nominated for Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song, “First Began”. (Congrats, PJ!)
Now, he’s about to set out again on his “More Gumbo” tour across Australia, Asia and Europe after releasing a well-received “unplugged” version of the album. (Where? Where does he get his energy?)
Somehow, he took a little time out to bless us with a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR. Take some time out for yourself and watch it here.
