The streets of Uptown New Orleans on Sunday were filled with blue and yellow: the club colors of The Prince of Wales Social Aid and Pleasure Club, which held its 90th annual second line
The sunny weather was a perfect backdrop for the parade, complete with floats and kids who were in the procession.
Festivities kicked off at the Lyons Center on Tchoupitoulas Street, where royalty, past and present, came out. But the entrances really dazzled when the club members came out, with smoke emitting from their fans as they walked individually from the center into the parade line.
Here are some of the sights and sounds:
Riders in various states of undress participate in the 11th annual World Naked Bike Ride New Orleans at Markey Park in the Bywater before continuing on to the French Quarter Saturday, June 8, 2019.
The group states on its website that the purpose of the ride is to promote a cleaner, safer, body-positive world to the masses in a free, non-sexual, fun bike ride. ‘Our mission is to take to the streets riding nude as the best way of defending our dignity as humans on bikes. We expose just how vulnerable we are as cyclist on our own city streets. We also ride to protest the world’s oil dependency, mainly cars, that negatively impacts the environment on this planet.’ Photo by Matthew Hinton
