J. Cole and Young Thug Bring An Odd Blend To The Smoothie King Center

by Alex Galbraith | August 13, 2018

J. Cole and Young Thug shouldn’t be in the same state at the same time, let alone sharing a bill. The former is a purist’s wet dream (who likes to rap about his own wet dreams), making the sort of lyrics-first hip-hop that old heads and white teenagers crave. The latter is an endless experimentalist who is more enamored with the many ways you can say a word than the what or why of saying it.

In theory, they shouldn’t work. But shaved ice and condensed milk shouldn’t work either, so we think they’ll go over in New Orleans just fine. The Odd Couple is taking over the Smoothie King Center tomorrow night as part of Cole’s KOD tour. Expect J. Cole to play the hits from his last few projects. Don’t expect anything from Young Thug. That way lies madness. Jaden Smith and EarthGang will bring even more weird to a tour that already has plenty, both on its face and in its performers.

If you’re a big fan of either of the headliners — or somehow a fan of both — tickets are still available. Pick those up here.
