Just about every suburb of Pittsburgh has a big multi-screen movie theater. If you are looking to see a blockbuster new release, there are no shortage of locations and showtimes. But what about the independent films and documentaries? Pittsburgh is home to many independent movie theaters and in the past few years, a handful of new theaters have opened (or re-opened) in Pittsburgh to offer moviegoers even more choices for films to watch on the big screen.
Dormont
Hollywood Theater
The Hollywood Theater in Dormont was built in 1925 and had many different owners and operators over the years. In 2011, the theater was reopened by Friends of the Hollywood Theater. In 2018, ownership of the theater transferred to Theatre Historic Society of America. The Hollywood Theater now shows first-run movies 7 days a week. Classic films are shown on the second Sunday of every month.

Harris Theater

Row House Cinema
Row House Cinema is a new theater that was built and opened in 2014. Row House has one screen and shows several movies every day. Row House Cinema shares a building with the bar Bierport (https://bierport.com/) and moviegoers are welcome to bring their beer into the theater.

McKees Rocks
The Parkway Theater
The Parkway Theater first opened in the 1930s as a movie theater. The building was vacant and remodeled in 2016. The new Parkway Theater reopened in 2017 and features a 45 seat screening room that shows films, hosts events and occasionally shows the Steeler game on the big screen.

Mount Lebanon
Denis Theater
The Denis Theatre Foundation is working to re-open the Denis Theatre in Mount Lebanon as a movie theater and cultural center for the community. Keep an eye on the Denis Theater website for news about their upcoming events.

The Warhol Theater

Oakmont
The Oaks Theater
The Oaks Theater first opened in 1938. The theater was renovated in 2014 and now hosts concerts, comedy nights and theater performances. Movies are still screened at The Oaks Theater for special occasions. Each month, The Oaks Theater partners with Oakmont Bakery for a Cinebrunch event, your ticket includes a hot brunch before the movie begins. Mimosas and bloody marys are also available at the bar.
Regent Square
Regent Square Theater
The Regent Square Theater first opened in 1936 and has served as a neighborhood movie theater ever since. Pittsburgh Filmmakers bought the theater in 1998.

Sewickley
Tull Family Theater
A group of residents formed a nonprofit in 2011 to establish a movie theater in northwest suburbs of Pittsburgh. The nonprofit Tull Family Theater opened on February 2017. The Tull Family Theater shows new releases, documentaries. Classic films are shown every Tuesday.

Squirrel Hill
Manor Theater
Located in the heart of Squirrel Hill, just a block from the intersection where Forbes Ave. meets Murray Ave, the Manor Theater has been screening movies for over 90 years. The theater has been remodeled many times and added a bar to the lobby in 2012. The Manor shows new releases and many films that are not screened at the larger movie theaters.

The Strand
The Strand Theater first opened in 1914 and screened movies for audiences until the 1980s. In 2001 the Strand Theater Initiative formed to preserve and restore the theater as a community space.
