“Ethan: The Miracle Dog” takes a deep dive into Ethan’s journey to recovery, a forever home and stardom.
On Jan. 29, 2021, an emaciated dog was dumped on the doorstep of the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville. The dog, later named Ethan, was on the brink of death and could not walk or even lift his own head. Staff were stunned by the horrific condition he was found in.
“He is literally the thinnest dog we have ever seen,” said Andrea Blair of the Kentucky Humane Society. “We honestly weren’t sure if he was going to even make it.”
Ethan’s caretakers posted regular information and updates on the dog’s condition on social media, which were met with great sympathy and interest. Internet users offered to donate to help Ethan recover, as well as offering to foster and adopt him. The Kentucky Humane Society even received “get well soon” cards from Ethan’s adoring fans.
“I started calling them his extended family,” said Jeff Calloway, the Kentucky Humane Society’s maintenance director. “People would send things from all over the country. I would hear from people outside of the country.”
Calloway quickly formed a bond with Ethan, becoming the dog’s primary caretaker and social media manager, and eventually, his owner.
