THE Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has passed away at the age of 76.
In our city, where music anchors our souls, we are all mourning. It feels like even the skies are opening up and crying out as a storm passes through the city this morning.
Here is what some New Orleanians are saying as we grieve the passing of a musical legend, who taught us all what it means to be a Natural Woman and that we all deserve R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Rest in Peace Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul.

The voice and the stories through song that touched so many of us, silenced. You knew when she opened her mouth, and her heart and soul, your were witnessing something very special- as she gave you a piece of herself. May you Rest In Peace, beautiful #QueenOfSoul. All you need to know about how legendary Aretha Franklin was. The first woman (of any race) enshrined in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

I’ll think of Aretha every time someone asks me if I wanna put my purse down. She knew better, and I do too. pic.twitter.com/ryU5vcGpCB
