We are cruising into the last few weeks of summer. This week we’ve got a great interview with a woman who is combining her Indian heritage and her Western Pennsylvanian upbringing through cooking. We also take a look at a new natural wine shop and share some of our favorite low ABV beers, perfect for camping and summer sipping. Scroll down for the secrets to using Ikea’s curbside pickup and a roundup of weekend pop-ups to visit.
SHOP: Apteka opens a natural wine shop
Apteka has found a way to curate a selection of natural wines that are free of added sulfites and processing aids. Just good ole grapes and yeast. Here’s our story on the natural wine shop, how it came to be and how to snag a bottle for takeout.
SIP: Beers you can drink all day long
We rounded up nine (local) beers that all weigh in below 5% ABV. Call it a summertime slammer or a lazy afternoon crusher. You can have a few brews and carry on with your day.
PROTIP: How to get a time slot for curbside pickup at Ikea
If you are furnishing a new apartment, upgrading your home office or setting up a home-school room, we’ve put together a guide on shopping at the Ikea Pittsburgh store, including how to get a coupon and a hack for Ikea’s Click and Collect.
Podcast: In the Kitchen with Veda Sankaran
This week on the podcast, we talk with entrepreneur Veda Sankaran who offers cooking classes (yes, she has some online classes too) and sells a unique blend of Indian spices. Veda talks about fusing Indian and Western Pennsylvania cuisine and shares recipes for Indian stuffed cabbage and butter chicken dip.

A Lego-like home in Garfield
Our house of the week was built by Module, a Pittsburgh startup that has received a lot of love for its flexible approach to building homes. Earlier this summer, Fast Company described Module’s approach as “Lego-like.” If you need more space in the future, you can slide off the roof and add an extra story.
This Module home in Garfield is now available for sale. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and is listed at $435,000. This home is part of a development on Black Street that includes an affordable home that is priced at $183,794 and only available to homebuyers who make equal to or less than 80% of the Area Median Income.
