We scored the scoop on a new, outdoor dining spot in Lawrenceville and decided to put that information to good use. This summer, Pittsburgh Sandwich Society is transforming their side lot. Soon, you’ll be able to snag some lunch or dinner and eat outdoors, surrounded by plants (which owner Mike Carney is planning on incorporating into some menu items), picnic tables, and a fire pit. There are plans in the works to expand the hours of their homebase/commissary (aka Take Aht!) to include some Friday nights, Sunday brunches, and off-menu, ticketed dinners. The goal is for the space to be a welcoming, casual hangout for their Lawrenceville neighbors. Yes, Take Aht! is now going to have space to eat-in (but, it’s still sort of aht-doors).

Fries and shine, it’s “Sunny Side Up”

There’s no better way to sneak preview the space than to throw a party. So, we’ve partnered with the PSS team to bring you “Sunny Side Up” — an outdoor brunch party you can feel good about. Join us to eat great food, drink great beers and take advantage of the Pittsburgh summer sunshine.

Everyone knows Pittsburgh Sandwich Society and its In-n-Aht burger, which has made a bunch of best-of lists. Last year was the debut of its second mobile food concept, the Burrito Bus, which serves up California-style burritos from a vintage Volkswagen bus. This year, the plan is to go outdoors and off-menu, partnering with some favorite local breweries and experimenting in the commissary kitchen.

Note: Have you had the After School Special Burrito? It’s the best handheld hangover food. And if you haven’t, I recommend dropping everything and following them on social media to stalk their location.

An undergrad degree in poetry means she has lots of unpractical knowledge about iambic pentameter, while a brief stint as a copy editor for Alternative Press taught her that twenty one pilots is stylized in all lowercase letters.

Wanna throw a party in a vacant parking lot? She’s interested.

At the onset of COVID-19, Stephanie took on the role of podcast producer for The Slaw.
