Drake’s “In My Feelings” finally dropped and we mostly loved it. The city-wide party does a fairly decent job of showcasing the place that Drake’s been eating off of for years. But we couldn’t help but leave the much-hyped video with a few concerns.
Aubrey Graham, come back down here. You have more than a few things to answer for.
What Was Up With The Accent?
Years of dropping “bad ting” and “gwan” had Drake convinced that he can adopt the accent of the Northernmost Carribean city. He couldn’t and his utterances of “Ya heard me?” and “Wuzzam?” while rocking a grill and a Boogie Cousins throwback jersey hit the local ear like a bricked jump shot.
You did your time on Degrassi. We all teared up when James became Wheelchair Jimmy. No one’s questioning your acting ability. But maybe leave the New Orleans intonation on the cutting room floor next time. If you have to, maybe take a long look at our video on New Orleans’ various ways of speaking.
What are dinners like at Phylicia Rashad and La La’s house?
While we’re talking about that intro, what do you think dinners are like at the Garden District home of Phylicia Rashad and La La? Is it just the two of them wandering around Grey Gardens-style? Why is a successful 39-year-old woman still living with/under the thumb of her mother? Is this just temporary until she and ‘Melo can find a place in Houston? We need answers.
Where was LaToya?

We all saw the shot that briefly bestowed Coolest Mayor Ever status on Mayor Cantrell. So we have to wonder, why wasn’t she in the video? Drake found time to fit a whole squad of New Orleanians into the video but not the city’s first female mayor? In the immortal words of those Scarborough Trinis Drake likes to pull inspiration from, “steups.”
Dat Dog, though?
Okay, we’re not saying we’re above the occasional Duck Special. But we’re a little disappointed that Drake went full Midwestern tourist and decided to pass over the city’s incredibly deep well of local hotspots to hit up the Frenchmen Dat Dog location.
The shop was probably chosen for its colorful exterior. It is a music video, after all. But Manchu was just up the road.
Did we need those intros and outros?
Drake hasn’t made proper television for quite a while and it shows in the intro and outro that drag the video out to near the eight-minute mark. Did we really need the “And you were there” ending to justify the fact that Drake wore a grill? Just cut them both and let the song and city stand on its own.
