The reaction to Drake’s new video around town was mostly positive. The overwhelming majority of New Orleanians who saw Drake paying homage to the city via the twerk-filled clip were happy with the final result. But we all know that Drake can’t do anything without doing it a little bit too much and the internet (particularly around here) can’t let anyone live.
These forces combined into a perfect storm on social media, with locals taking their shot at clowning the Canadian rapper for dressing up in a New Orleanian’s clothes. First, folks had to go in on the chameleonic rapper’s tendency to claim anywhere but his home.

A few institutions tried to push back against the snark, fighting the good fight to keep things civil. And even we have to admit that it was pretty cool to see Alvin Kamara next to the rapper.

You knew it was coming from the first time that Drake opened his mouth. The rough approximation of a New Orleans accent wasn’t going to fly, especially in a city with so many distinct variations on their twang. It was the main thing that stuck out to our own questioning minds and Twitter was right there with us.
Drake with this fake New Orleans Accent 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Drake should’ve got Wayne to be in the video and help him with the accent lol. That would’ve been tight

The only question is what Drake will do next. Now that he’s broken the seal on actually including New Orleans in the final product, do we dare to dream that he might actually do some full-on collabs with rising talent? Twitter can do our hoping for us.
NEXT Drake go start wearing a dickie suit & do songs with Neno Calvin 😂
