The last several weeks have felt like a mad dash. Starting with Essence Fest and running through this weekend’s gauntlet of White Linen Night, Satchmo Summerfest, Soca Fete, Salsa Bachata Festival and Netroots all battling for crowds, the city hasn’t taken its foot off the gas in a month.
Compared to last weekend, this week is a little bit more tame. But we want to stress that we only mean that relatively. This week is still as packed with excellent events as any other, if not as overstuffed as the immediate past.
Check out our picks for getting out of the house this week.

We’re going to keep screaming about Lindsey Baker until y’all listen. Her doomed, country-leaning tunes only sound better with a full band behind them and you should take the chance to see the whole act before they hit the road behind their latest album Trench Foot.

This is New Orleans’ best live comedy sex talk show. Promise that we’d be saying that even if it wasn’t New Orleans’ only live comedy sex talk show. Hosts Abigail Isaacoff and Black Girl Giggles‘ Camille Roane swear that IPSA provides comedy, sex, games and surprises for their audiences and their guests.

Partners N Crime + DJ Jubilee + Lady Red + Cupid
Bounce is having a big moment right now. Drake has made it so that the top two songs in the country are bounce tracks while showing love to the city in a major way. Even with all these outside eyes on us right now, chances are a Partners N Crime and DJ Jubilee show will still be a mostly local affair.

Other Tennessee Williams plays might get a bit more love — and we’re certainly not going to play the contrarian when Streetcar is on the other side of the argument — but this play that Williams began writing shortly after moving to New Orleans offers a portrait of the still-struggling writer, along with a whole boarding house of fictionalized cellar-dwellers. The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans has revived this less-than-loved series of sketches at the Marigny Opera House.
Carre runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through August 19.
