For the money, for the glory and for the fun … well, not for the money. But certainly the glory.

But keep in mind that tube socks, short shorts, and a stache that would make Burt Reynolds go full on Buford T. Justice with jealousy won’t mean squat if you are as ordinary as they come.

The 610 Stompers dance team is holding its auditions Saturday and Sunday at Harrah’s Casino. It’s a dance group like no other, and one that left national anchors speechless years ago on national television. Self-billed as “Ordinary men with extraordinary moves,” be sure to bring a healthy dose of extra if you dare to compete for a coveted spot among the most dazzling dancing dudes in the Crescent City.

Doors open at 12 p.m. and the audition begins at 12:30 p.m. A mere 50 men will be able to attempt to wow judges for a spot on the team each day. But you should definitely arrive EARLY! This is the 610 Stompers that crowds go ga-ga for during Carnival parades, after all. Once you’re registered, participants will have time to learn a new dance routine and answer a few questions from a panel of judges.
Men who show up to prance to impress don’t need to buy a ticket, the organization said. Tickets ($10) will be available at the door.

In this first round of auditions, 50 dancers will be seen each day. The spots are on a first come, first serve basis. Hence the urgency and importance of arriving early. And if you don’t make the finals for the red satin-clad team on the first day, you can take what you learned and give it a go on Sunday. Keep tryin’.

Finals will be Aug. 18 at Harrah’s Casino.
