This month New Orleans dancers are moving with a new groove! These artists tell original stories, battle for a title, perform contemporary and classical styles in theaters, churches, and non-traditional spaces.
Here are our picks for the fall season:
First Ever Dancing Ground SHOWDOWN
Oct. 13
The Civic Theatre
Nine local dancers/dance groups will compete for bragging rights and a cash prize in the ultimate dance showdown. With ages 9-37, spanning multiple genres, these finalists represent a wide array of New Orleans talent. The “Queen Diva” Big Freedia and New Orleans’ dance expert Michelle Gibson will judge the live competition. WWL-TV’s Sheba Turk and Ashé Cultural Arts Center’s Frederick “Hollywood” Delahoussaye will be the official hosts!

Dance meets theatre in STORIES WITHOUT WORDS presented by The Radical Buffoons. A new and experimental work blends theater, dance, and collaborative devising into an evening of music-and-motion. Experience the premiere collaboration of Jon Greene and Jarrell Hamilton on stage for an extended run! The evening rakes place in The Fortress of Lushington, a converted workshop space made blackbox theater in the Marigny.
Marigny Opera Ballet: FOLLIES 1915

The Marigny Opera Ballet starts its season with the world premiere of FOLLIES 1915. Devised by Ricky Graham and Dave Hurlbert, Follies takes place in New Orleans in 1915. Set to period music played live from the New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra this comedy unfolds when a brother and sister are separated during a storm at sea. They resurface at the elegant Palm Court– a haven for gigolos, foxtrots and intrigue. Playing for one weekend only, this ballet is looking to sweep us off our feet.
