Festival season is almost upon us, and the Wednesdays at the Squareconcert series will be a perfect pregame to get ready for the raucous calendar ahead.
The concert series, sponsored by the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans, is smaller than other festivals, and for many professionals, the Lafayette Square venue is perfect for after work.
If you work a little farther than the CBD, there’s lots of parking near the Rouses on Baronne Street, but don’t forget to pay the meter. The square’s central location makes parking at a meter pretty easy, and since people are leaving work, there are lots of spaces so you don’t have to pay a lot.
Admission is free, but you should probably bring cash. Food costs tickets, and while you can pay with your card for them, the cash line is ALWAYS shorter.
Pro tip: Take a walk around the square and plan your food first. You don’t want to be left with one last ticket, knowing you could’ve kept that money in your pocket.
As far as where to use the restroom, there are portable toilets there, but as always, you’ll want to pack toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
You should probably bring a chair or blanket, at a minimum, if you have a little one with you. You can also bring water, but outside alcohol isn’t allowed.
Be prepared for a pretty big crowd, especially if the weather is nice. Crowd size also depends on who’s playing, but let’s be honest, all of the musical acts are good! On March 20, Big Sam’s Funky Nation kicks off the series, and it closes out on May 22 with Mia Borders.
