The Super Krewe of Bacchus lead by Bacchus LII Robin Thicke, a singer/songwriter and host on the Masked Singer, parades with the theme “Wild Wild West” on the Uptown Parade route starting from Tipitinas at Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas in Uptown in New Orleans, Sunday February 23, 2020.
Robin’s father, Alan Thicke, reigned as Bacchus in 1988 as star of the TV show “Growing Pains.”
Named after the Roman god of wine, Bacchus is one of the first Super Krewes featuring celebrity Monarchs with large membership and large tandem floats including the four-piece Bacchagator. The floats have been separated this year due to safety concerns after two accidents in two separate parades by tandem floats. The Krewe had its first parade in 1969 with Danny Kaye, and has featured numerous celebrities from Hulk Hogan to Will Ferrell. It was the brainchild of Owen Brennan, Jr. of the Brennan’s family of restaurants. The Wild Wild West floats depict Wyatt Earp, Buffalo Bill Cody, John Wayne, Mae West and traditional Native Americans. It also features the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band that has an annual battle of the bands before the start of the parade with another HBCU (Historically Black College or University).
